Annual - Residential Bulk Pick-up

The East Haven Department of Public Service will provide an annual bulk pick up. Town Hall will announce and provide a schedule each year. 

Affordable waste, our weekly curbside waste removal will not remove bulk waste. 

When bulk pick up is scheduled, please follow the guidelines provided. We ask residents to review the bulk guidelines carefully. 

Annual Bulk Pick up - Program Guidelines
 To ensure we follow State guidance and to ensure efficiency, the following rules apply:
 Bulk pickup is not designed to accommodate the disposal of an entire household.

Unacceptable Trash & Bulky Waste

  • Construction, demolition and/or land clearing debris ( shingles, plaster, sheetrock, ceiling tiles, roofing materials, metal pipe, lumber, landscaping material, tree stumps, gravel, powders, soil, rocks, stones, bricks, concrete and insulation materials and tiles).
  • Leaves and grass clippings (per State Law). Leaves are picked up in Fall - per schedule. 
  • Explosives, gunpowder, ammunition, etc., propane tanks (Barbeque grill size).
  • Pathological and Biological waste, including needles, blood, etc.
  • Hazardous materials, chemicals or radioactive materials. Liquids such as anti-freeze, gas, oil and oil sludge and paint.
  • Cesspool waste, sewage sludge or human waste.
  • Automobile or other batteries of equal or larger size.
  • 55-gallon drums or oil tanks.
  • Large items of machinery, equipment or other component parts (including oil, gas, chemical tanks and pesticides).
  • Motor Vehicle Tires (per State Law)
  • Vehicle parts, lawnmowers, other gas powered equipment.
  • Propane tanks
  • Porcelain (toilet bowls, sinks, etc.)
  • Pool covers
  • All other items of waste that would be likely to pose a threat to health or safety.

 

Acceptable Items:
 • Mattresses and box springs (one each per household)
 • Furniture
 • Rugs
 • Household appliances: washers, dryers, air conditioners, stoves, refrigerators (doors must be    removed)
 • Freezers, toasters, lamps, microwaves
 • Iron goods and other metal items
 • Computers and televisions

If you are removing the contents of a room/home on the front lawn - this will not be picked up. This is a courtesy for residents to be able to remove a furniture item, not for removal of entire house contents.

 Holiday Trees can be brought to the landfill at no charge. You may also eave your Christmas tree curbside, Jan. 5th, we will pick up trees for about two weeks. Please call DPW with questions.
